Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry

Charles and Derek

Charles grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, and has had a life-long interest in the airlines. Kanahwa Airport in Charleston in the 1950's was typical of the period in being able to see close-up the DC-3's, Martins, Convairs, Constellations, Viscounts, DC-4’s/6's/7's, and Electras on the ramp. Charleston was served by Capital, Piedmont, American, Eastern, Allegheny, Lake Central, and United. Traveling by air during this period of time spurred an avid and never-waning love of the airlines. During college at West Virginia University, Charles earned his private pilot license and was a Flight Attendant for a short time and again later part-time. After receiving his D.D.S. degree Charles moved to North Carolina to enter private practice, and eventually after meeting extensive continuing education and passing a comprehensive examination he became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. The airline collection has continuously grown since then, and Charles has made many friends in the airline industry, both current and pioneer. Today his collection is regarded as one of the premier archives of airline memorabilia in private hands, but it is the wonderful airline-related friendships forged through the years that he treasures most.
